Tora Wallander (°1991) is a Swedish video artist based in Stockholm, graduated from the local Royal Institute of Art. She participated in expositions at the Arvika and the Bonniers Konsthall, while exposing her work in the dismantled core of Reaktorhallen R1, the first nuclear plant of Sweden.

As a modern-day altarpiece, a monumental projection of her latest film ‘I’m Thinking About This Whole World, Clouds Below, Space Above’ will screen in front of the altar-shaped installation of Filip Harna and Anna Zanichelli.

It is a non-chronological narrative film edited in a loop and existing out of 7 chapters, each containing a beginning and an end - of life, earth, and the universe. While borrowing from the nature documentary genre, it plays with aesthetics of narrative cinema and a parodical use of ‘the epic’. Her fascination for older film techniques and ‘in camera’ special effects enable her to create unique illusions when moving between analog and digital.

Cyclical stories of genesis and apocalypse in nature and the universe are examined through science and religion. It feels like nature can be seen as a mirror to reflect on ourselves.

The theatrical and narrative nature documentary-style that is applied is a dichotomy between truth and fiction.Through its apparent staging, it shows the subjectiveness of all stories regardless of worldview. Darwinian evolution is an example of this. While it’s scientifically proven, it’s not the absolute truth: species have evolved through competition but also by symbiosis. It raises a question about good and evil and where we see humanity on this balance.
