Les Mains Frêles' is a collective consisting of French artists Adrien Mazzolini (°1992) & Sophie Valera-Garcia (°1991). Forming a duo after meeting in the Parisian improvisational music concert-scene, they have since developed a practice in which physical and virtual materials become a mirroring narrative to question who we are. They achieve this by interweaving digital creation such as the production of electronic music and 3D animation, with with manual modes of creation and such as the crafting of ceramics and sculptural objects.

For this exhibition, the duo created a computer generated world where all objects and characters are randomly selected by Dr. Google. This selection process invites coincidence. The random combinations of objects and characters will always occasionally produce strings of meaningful symbols, that the viewer might interpret as a glimpse of their unconscious self.

The empty placards on which this projected Kafkian landscape falls, might have once carried a message, but now, these empty symbols of free speech only ask us: What do we wish to manifest in this world?

Fascinated by the spaces surrounding us, the duo also choose elements from the exhibition space itself to copy and transform into the virtual layer coexisting with the physical space. Painting a haunting picture of our subconscious, a layered contemplation of physical and metaphysical life, the work is a sensitive and emotional response to the immediate environment, an apocalyptic dream or nightmare in which we must ask ourselves what is real and what is not.
